Abstract: | This Atlas has been developed through stakeholders’ consultation forums that were facilitated by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) with support from NORAD and WWF Kenya. The development of the Atlas was guided by the principle of protection of the environment and natural resources spelt out in the Constitution of Kenya 2010. The constitution provides fundamental rights to a safe and secure environment and establishment of durable and sustainable systems of development. In addition to the constitution, the Environment Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) 1999 is the primary law on environment which is also supported by various policy and legislative instruments that ensures protection of specific environmental components that include: wildlife, forest, wetlands and water among others. |
