dc.description.abstractThis book reviews the current state of knowledge of inland aquaculture and rnariculture in Kenya. The book aims to highlight challenges aid opportunities in Kenya's aquaculture sector and contributes to information sharing and capacity building for better management and sustainable use of the country's aquautic resources. Budding on a unique set of information sources, this book presents a broad view of the current state of knowledge on governance. livelihoods. production and supply chains access two of aquaculture sub-sectors i.e., freshwater aquaculture and Mariculture. For the aquaculture industry to be transformed and upgraded there in need to upscale modern technologies, innovations and management practices (TIMPs) to realize sustainable envisaged in the SDGs. The innovations include development of model aquaparks. intensive recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), tank-based systems, bydroponics and aquaponics, as well as high-density intensive production cages in lakes and reservoirs. For instance cage culture has emerged to become a significant supply system for Nile tilapia over past decade Currently, there are close to 3,000 active cages in Lake Victoria producmg an estimated 1o.ooo metric tons of fish annually.en_US
